IS THERE JUSTICE IN THE PHILIPPINES?

The Philippine Tribune, a most respected news daily in the Philippines because of its unbiased and fearless reporting, today writes: “It was not only former Commission on Elections Commissioner Virgilio “Garci” Garcillano that President Arroyo had been caught speaking with on the wiretapped compact discs about the poll-rigging operations to ensure her victory in 2004, but she also did the same with another high-ranking Comelec official, an intelligence operative from the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines(Isafp) yesterday disclosed to the Tribune, on the usual condition of anonymity.” The same report points to a top official of the Comelec, perhaps higher than “Garci,” who “had convinced Mrs. Arroyo to appoint Garcillano as commissioner, to serve as a smokescreen for the illegal activities that the high-ranking election official will be engaging.” These new revelations if proven will immediately put closure to the Arroyo-Garcillano conspiracy to rig the 2004 presidential vote and signal the beginning of the post-Arroyo regime.

Who is this high-ranking election official? He or she should be quickly exposed, prosecuted, and convicted. There is no more time for delay since the Filipino people, the poor victims of government corruption, are getting hungrier and hungrier. History has shown that intense hunger and poverty can turn the masses into a killing machine and turn the Philippines into a “killing fields”

Those who received “blood money” or spoils of corruption from the Arroyo regime will try to save Malacanang by hook or by crook because when Gloria sinks to the ground, they will follow. Under these deteriorating economic and social conditions of the Filipino masses, it’s definitely not “time to move on” but it’s JUDGMENT TIME: CRIME STILL DOES NOT PAY. LET THE WHEEL OF JUSTICE GRIND.

2006: YEAR OF TRUTH AND JUSTICE

The first problem of a post-Arroyo regime in the Philippines is where to incarcerate hundreds of politicians and public officials who stole the Filipino people’s money and properties, particularly those appropriated for the poor farmers and the needy, as well as thousands who received stolen government resources. Given a shortage of prison cells in the Philippines, the alternative which I would not support is a large and strong “hanging Acacia tree.”

Since the Philippines is a Christian nation that preaches love and forgiveness, it would be a good idea for those politicians and government officials involved in the crimes against the Filipino people to come out, confess of their sins, and ask for forgiveness to escape appropriate judgment. Yet they must return everything they stole from the people with interest. And they should know that their names are already included in a long list of infidels. They can still run but they cannot hide from the law.

If Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her husband believe that they are indeed innocent of having committed any crimes against the Filipino people, then they are entitled to due process of law considering mounting charges and accusations of such. The same process applies to their minions and legions of followers. If not, then they should not wait for the ax to fall. They would surely lose for nobody wins against truth and justice. The only option is to seek refuge in a foreign country willing to accept them.

The 2006 is said to be the Year of the Fire Dog that symbolizes JUSTICE, according to the Chinese calendar. It may be coincidental or perhaps predestined that TRUTH AND JUSTICE may prevail in the Philippines during this year to save its people from poverty and despair.
