NO AMERICAN SUPPORT FOR GLORIA
In its shameful attempt to claim U.S. support for the crumbling Arroyo regime, Malacanang mistook US Sen. Richard Lugar as the one who advised the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos to “cut and cut cleanly” after millions of Filipinos started to march towards Mendiola to physically remove Marcos from power. To refresh their erratic memory, it was the late Senator Paul Laxalt of Nevada, a friend of former American President Ronald Reagan, who gave Marcos the ultimate nudge to quit and escape to Hawaii.
No American leader or politician can straightforwardly say that he or she supports the corrupt and graft-ridden administration of de facto Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Even a Filipino American FBI Intelligence Analyst, Leandro Aragoncillo, appeared to have sacrificed his career for the sake of releasing the truth about the immoral and evil character of the current Arroyo administration.
When asked pointblank by acting DFA Secretary Edsel Custodio to give a categorical statement of United States support for the government of Gloria, acting United States Charge d’Affaires Paul Jones responded in this manner: “We have a very important relationship here in the Philippines with the government on substantive issues including the fight against terrorism, assistance to government and the private sector, to create economic opportunities here.” To translate it in plain and undiplomatic words, the American diplomat tried to explain that the United States concern is with things that will benefit the Filipino people such as the fight against terrorism, American foreign aid to bolster the public and private sectors, and create jobs for the masses. When his statement failed to mention Arroyo, he expressed in a subtle way the negative American attitude towards the illegitimate president that she cannot satisfy these concerns.
Again when asked about the veracity of the released classified US intelligence reports characterizing the Arroyo administration as “high risk,” and “in shambles” and its only direction is “down,” another American diplomat, Ruth Urry who is the information officer of the US Embassy in Manila, refused to comment because of a “serious ongoing investigation” in the United States related to such reports. Once again, her no comment response is not an affirmation of support for Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as claimed by Malacanang propagandists.
At any rate, it won’t be long when the words “cut and cut cleanly” reach the ears of Gloria and she would listen in order to stop the shedding of Filipino blood for the sake of democracy. Let’s hope she would not be like the Egyptian Pharaoh, Ramses, of the Bible whose heart was so hardened that he refused to accept the truth: And God punished him.
End
