LINE FOR THE HANGING TREE

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo or GMA as commonly called by the Philippine media is small but shrewd. And she is fast behaving like a shrew as the acting President of the Republic of the Philippines by virtue of an illegitimate power grab in 2001 and a rigged election in 2004.

Despite the Filipino people’s vigorous calls for Gloria to resign, she still clings to a stolen property. She challenged her opposition in Congress to remove her through impeachment. It’s a bait and switch scheme, GMA style. The opposition lost and Malacanang knew it before it happened. GMA filled the dirty pockets of her political allies in Congress who are in the majority with stolen public funds and instructed them to kill the impeachment move. At this stage of the fight, the devil won. Those who are willing to sell their souls for “30 pieces of silver” are still in the majority. Yet these fallen souls “walking to and fro” with their wily smiles along the halls in Malacanang, in the Philippine Congress, the Philippine Military and Police, the Supreme Court, the media, the business community, and the Church have already qualified to join the line for the hanging tree.

In a recent speech before a Philippine media group, GMA recklessly called her political opponents who organized a people’s fact-finding congress called Citizens Congress for Truth and Accountability as “losers” and “destabilizers.” Does she consider 1993 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera, Sr.Mary John Mananzan of St. Scholastica’s College, Dr. Maria Serena Diokno, and several successful Filipinos in business, law, education, and various fields as “losers” and “destabilizers.” Short of a violent move to kick her out of Malacanang, this should be the last peaceful course of action by those who truly want to see the evidences that will support the charges of GMA’s cheating, lying, and stealing. If she claims that she prays to her god who put her in power, then she must try to clear her name and refute the charges against her in public with evidences. If she keeps disregarding the mission of such a fact-finding body, then it’s tantamount to her admission of guilt. If such is the case, then GMA must repent and go in peace. But if she still holds to a stolen property, then she must be arrested by the Filipino people.

Since the case of The Filipino People v. GMA is a domestic issue, the international community led by the United States does not want to meddle or even comment. When the evidences are evaluated and would show that GMA did rig the 2004 presidential elections, misused public funds for her presidential campaign and other illegal projects, used gambling money to bribe election officials including the military and police, and used “blood” money to kill political enemies, it’s time for the whole world to clamor for Gloria’s ouster and punishment.
